Do you have something in common with these people? Thomas Edison ,George H. W. Bush, Johnny Carson, Roger Ebert, Ralph Nader, Alice Cooper, The United States Military and maybe you.....Man that's an odd list of people don't you think?
Wheelbarrow's, covered wagon's, B-17 Flying Fortress air plane's, US6 6x6 military trucks, cars. That's a funny list of things isn't it ?
Well what do all these things and people have in common? maybe a few things but one thing for sure.....
The Studebaker yep they all owned or were made by The Studebaker Manufacturing Company. The only company to successfully bridge the gap between covered wagons to automobiles (AKA horseless carriage) back in the day...Yes maybe even you have owned one some time in the past and you also can add your name to the list of people that owned a Studebaker....One of the greatest American made cars ever made.
Well today in history was a sad day on this date December 9th 1963 The last American made Studebaker was produced, and the factory in South Bend, Indiana, was closed it doors forever (they still were built in Canada until 66)
The Studebaker Brothers: Clem, Henry, J.M., Peter and Jacob.
Thomas Edison purchased the second electric car produced by Studebaker
The Amphibious Weasel used in WW2

Good luck and success.

Now there's the familiar Zane history post that I know and love. I'm going to have to find a photo of an old car and see if you happen to know what kind of car it is. Wow, a can I stump Zane post. That will lots of fun.
PS-have you done me that favor on facebook yet?
The sad part is they were pretty good cars, they were just out done by the advertising of the big three at the time. I just wish I had one today as it would be nice to have a car. Today I maybe the only agent in the world without a car!
Great bit of history there. My brother in law drove a Studebaker when he was dating my sister. I bet he wishes he still owned it.
Michael...Studebaker's were into everything...it really is some neat history ...thanks for stopping
Lou...thanks for dropping by
Tammy...that sounds like fun...but do you know how many cars have been made by different company's. as for facebook what I didn't do it right?
Todd...before they started making autos they were the largest and best wagon makers in the world...and I hope you get the car situation fixed soon thanks for dropping by....
Richard..I bet he still wishes he had his old Studebaker also...for that matter I wish I had a 57 Golden Hawk myself.....peace zane
Hey, Zane. What a cool post. Thanks for sharing a bit of history, Jim
I have always loved Studebakers. They were always high quality well built cars by craftsmen not computers. In fact it's been written one of the main reason's they failed was the relative high labor costs because management refused to make do with less. As far as advertising... hey they were the sponsor for the tv show Mr Ed....now that I think of it, appropriate link.. horse.. studebaker..wagon. Anyway, here's a picture of my 1937 Studebaker
Hi Jim...thanks and thanks for stopping by....
Mike...They are great cars .....And I want your truck ....there was a car turned into a truck on e-bay I wanted some time this past summer(Becky said no to that one also)....the trucks are the best my uncle had a 30 something truck him and his brothers would take out in the field and roll it over and drive away....they did that back in the 50s .....fun times .... but way before my time.... thanks for the photo of your truck it is great....peace zane
we had a studebaker. The engine ran so well that after the rest of the car died my dad used that engine to replace the blown one in his "White" brand truck (part of our farm equipment) Thanks for sharing...
Stan
I learned to drive my mother's Studebaker LARK convertible in the early 60s.....it was BLACK with a blue interior and I looked COOL!!!!
Heck, the Avanti might still be getting built somewhere... those things kept turning up until at least the 1980s. And the Golden Hawk ruled...
Never owned a Studebaker! History is such an interesting subject once you're way out of school!!!! Thanks and have a great day!
Zane The Studebaker story was interesting and your photos are right on. Why don't you do Packard - one of my favorite oldies :)
thanks everybody.......for stopping by....peace zane
