Life as a Virtual Assistant - Lightening Your Load One Smile at a Time: Cookie Exchange - Bakers Start Your Engines

Cookie Exchange - Bakers Start Your Engines

When was the last time you participated in a Cookie Exchange? A few years back, about 10 -12 of us would get together each year and drink wine, eat yummy food, exchange gifts and our favorite Christmas cookies. It was a blast! Alas, like so many other things, that little tradition fell to the wayside.

So, right here, right now, I am reviving the Cookie Exchange with my fellow food lovers. Below is one of my favorite cookie recipes. Please share your's. Take moment to see Heather's Super Duper Chocolate Kisses Cookies slideshow tutorial. It's great!

Sandies

1 cup softened butter

1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar

1 tablespoon water

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups finely chopped pecans

1 cup sifted powdered sugar

1. Beat butter with electric mixer on medium 30 seconds. Add the 1/2 cup pwdered sugar. Beat until combined, scraping bowl. Beat in water and vanilla. Beat in as much flour as you can. Stir in any remaining flour. Stir in pecans.

2. Shape dough into 1 inch balls or 2x1/2 inch logs. Please 1" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 325 degree oven about 15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer to wire rack; let cool. Gently shake cooled cookies in a plastic bag with 1 cup of powdered sugar.

NOTE: For cocoa sandies, prepare as above except add 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder with the flour.

Now, it's your turn to add your favorite cookie recipe to the cookie exchange.  I'll look forward to it!

I'd like to extend a personal invitation for you to join our Bon Appetit Group where you'll find other great recipes and fun!

You will love the cookie exchange.  It's as much about enjoying the company of friends as it is enjoying great cookie.

Hi Li - Wouldn't it be great to revive the Cookie Exchange in our own neighborhoods?  I just moved into a community where I don't know anyone - just a few neighbors who welcomed us.  Might be a great way to get to know more people.

This sounds good to me. I will try to help my wife shop for the ingredients, and maybe she will reward all of us with the cookies.

Hi Guy - I like the way you think - help with the shopping and end up with some great cookies.  A great cooperative effort!

A cookie exchange seems like such a fun idea!  Thanks for the link to Heather's tutorial.  Have a great day and a Merry Christmas.

Hi Carra - What a great idea!  Let's do it.  Anyone else who wants to join in the fun is more than welcome to do so.

Pamela, I'll have to share the recipe I'm taking to a friend's cookie exchange next Saturday.  This is her 10th year doing it and we all have a great time.  I'll be blogging about it that day - with photos of the goodies too.  Your idea of a virtual one is great!
