The Hoover Dam: A Breathless Beauty

My little family spent Christmas at my parents' house in Arizona this year.  The day after Christmas, we sat around trying to figure out something to do.  Somehow, the Hoover Dam came up in conversation.  At only about an hour and a half away and with nothing else really to do, it was a very feasible option.  I had never been there before, so I was very excited.  In my opinion, the Hoover Dam is a breathless beauty.  We got up close and personal:

The Hoover Dam goes a looooong way down (or up, I guess).

They are building a bridge to bypass the area overhead.  This is the shot I got looking out over the Colorado River while leaning over the edge of the dam:

Simply amazing, don't you think?  I have several more photos I took that I'm putting together in a slideshow.  But, I couldn't wait to share these with you.

**These photos were taken by my very own camera and are my property.  However, if you like what you see and want to use them for yourself, please let me know.  I might give my permission, I might not.  I gotta hear the reason first. ;-)**

NASCAR Recap: Shelby 427 in Vegas

OK, OK.  I'm not much of a Kyle Busch fan.  We call him "shrub" in our house because he is Kurt Busch's little brother (big bush, little shrub, get it?).  In fact, I was happy when Hendricks let him go a couple of years ago.  His mouth was almost as big as his ego.  It will be nice when he humbles himself a little more so I can like him and actually start to (dare I say it?) root for him.  However, I have to admit that he is an extremely talented driver and this was quite an exciting race.  Unfortunately, Matt Kenseth was out before we hit double digit laps.  And so were the hopes of making NASCAR history by being the first driver to win the first three races of the season.  For a brief, shining moment, I honestly thought my man Jeff Gordon's dry spell was about to end.  So...damn...close!  Another top 10 finish at the beginning of the season and Kenseth's unfortunate last place finish has secured my man in the #1 points position now.  I'm extremely hopeful that these first three races are a good look at what I can expect out of my guy this season.  And I have to give a shout out to little Joey Logano (#20).  He finished 13th.  He should be VERY proud of himself!  I can't wait to see what my fellow NASCAR fanatic, Zane Coffin, has to say about his experiences at the Vegas track.  14 caution flags.  Wow!  Track record.
